About
Communication is how institutions move.
I learned that before I could explain it. Media sharpened it, twelve years of running my own businesses tested it, and years inside regulated utilities proved it. This is how I came to see it.
I · Communication
70 percent of business is communication.
My father used to say that business was about thirty percent technical and seventy percent communication. I grew up inside that idea long before I knew it was one.
When it came time to choose a major, the business programs each looked like one function of a company. Strategic Communication was the only one that felt like business itself: the part that decides whether people understand, trust and act.
So communication was never something I added later to my understanding of institutions. It was how I learned to understand them in the first place.

II · Media
In media, I learned that information never arrives alone. It arrives framed, and the frame decides what people do with it.
MTV Networks · Fox Television
III · Operator
Twelve years building and running my own businesses.
I founded Body Makeover Fitness in 2010 and CRAG Fitness in 2016, and ran CRAG until 2022. Owning a business takes the abstraction out of everything. You sell something, somebody has to deliver it. You make a promise, somebody has to keep it. You make a bad decision, there is nowhere to hide from the consequence.

IV · Institutions
Inside regulated utilities, I saw how decisions really move, and how much an institution forgets when one person leaves.
I worked in government and external affairs at Pepco and Exelon: the part of a utility that answers to regulators, elected officials and the communities it serves. The work runs on relationships, timing and commitments. What I noticed was where the knowledge behind all of it lived. Not in systems. In people. The best practitioners carried it well, and institutions everywhere call that expertise, right up until the person leaves.
V · Building
Now I build what was missing.
